Education is treated as a priority in the world. Somewhere compulsory and sometimes for reserved groups. Educational attainment means the highest level of education completed. In 2020 around 66% of the population has done secondary education (the second stage traditionally found in formal education, beginning about age 11 to 13 and ending usually at age 15 to 18) And 40% are at tertiary level (education for people above school age, including college, university, and vocational courses.) Female share at tertiary level 41%. Adult Male literacy rate ( the percentage of population in any particular age group who can read and write.) 90% Youth female literacy rate 90.8%.

Traditional education statistics.

  • Among OECD countries, an average of 82.1% of students attend public schools and 17.9% of students attend private school.

  • Hongkong has the second-highest percentage of students who attend private schools at 92.6%.

  • The Russian Federation has the highest number of students who attend public schools at 99.9%.

  • 96% of students in Macau, China go to private school and only 4% attend public schools.

Home based education

(educating children at home instead of in the traditional classroom environment.)

  • The homeschool population has an estimated growth of 2% to 8% per annum.
  • Around 3.2 million American adults have been homeschooled.
  • The number of homeschooled students in the U.S. increased from 8,50,000 in 1999 to 1.69 million in 2016.
  • The most common aim for homeschooling is to provide children with religious and moral instruction.

Impact of COVID-19 on education.

  • According to The World Bank, 1.6 billion children and youth are out of school in 161 countries as of March 28, 2020 (Saavedra, 2020).
  • In the U.S., 489 schools were closed as of March 2020 (Education Week, 2020).
  • As of May 15, 2020, 49 U.S. states had closed schools in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • Only 16% of schoolchildren could be reached by radio-based learning worldwide.
  • More than 90% of the countries adopted digital and broadcast remote learning policies, only 60% did so for pre-primary education.

Online learning in education.

  • According to studies, eLearning can lessen energy consumption by 90%.
  • 17% say that eLearning is the best way of pursuing their interest.
  • 77% of students who enrol in an online program help them reach their employment and career goals.
  • Statistics say, between the years 2020-2025 the market will experience a 200% increase. Udemy, has about 20000 experts with about 12 million students taking a course.
  • Other platforms like skillshare, ruzuku etc with tutors earning up to $40000 per year.
  • Students undertaking online degrees increased to 10.6% in 2016.
  • 17% of women are more likely to enrol in online learning.
  • At least 60% of internet users have indulged in online learning.

Global statistics.

  • Youth literacy rate had increased from 81% to 92% from 1985 to 2018.
  • Two out of every three countries reported that the youth literacy rate is nearly equal between males and females.
  • In the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, seven countries reported more than 95% net enrollment rate for primary education. West and Central Africa have the lowest literacy rate among the youth, which is less than 50%.
